Valentine Lunch 2009

2/17 - Wednesday - Dr. Michael McKelvey, the founder and Director of Optimal Health Chiropractic here in Beaufort and a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician, talking about "Natural Health and Healing – The New Revolution."

2/19 - Friday - Club Board Meeting -7:00a.m. - Beaufort Memorial Hospital Foundation Office, Suite 21 (Alicia Taylor's office).

2/23 - Tuesday -Career Day. To acquaint students with the wide variety of career choices available to them, the local Rotary clubs cooperate with School-to-Work Coordinators and educators from the local high schools to sponsor an annual Career Day.

For those interested in the military, buses will take students to Parris Island, the MCAS, and the Naval Hospital where they will spend between 9 - 11:20 with mentors at career job sites. Following which, there will be a lunch on base, paid for by Rotary, where students will say two or three sentences on what they have learned and a speaker will talk to them on pathways and criteria for entering the military. Students leave and go back to high schools at 12:30.

For those interested in civilian vocations, students will be taken by bus to TCL at 8:30 a.m. At 9:00 Rotarians and community business partners will come to pick up the students and take them to their job site for 2 - 2.5 hours. Students should be back at TCL by 11:30 where they will be fed, say a few sentences on what they experienced, and have a short tour of the campus.

Let Harriett know if you are interested in hosting a student. We need Rotarians to come forward and participate. The 2 – 2.5 hours a student spends in your business could make a huge impact on that student’s life. SC students study under 16 Career Clusters as part of the Personal Pathways to success program. If we have enough Rotarian slots from different classification areas, students can be matched with their Career Cluster of Choice. If so, this “out of the classroom” will help them relate the information from their career cluster classes with the real world of work. If not, they will still learn valuable career information and skills needed in the workplace.

Rotarians will pick up their assigned students at 9:00 am from TCL and return them by 11:30 am to TCL for lunch.

Harriett is also looking for up to 10 Rotarians from the three clubs to volunteer on February 23 to help at the bases and TCL.
